![]() And then she sate down in the chair of the Middle-sized Bear, and that was too soft for her. Then Goldilocks, who was tired, for she had been catching butterflies instead of running on her errand, sate down in the chair of the Great Big Bear, but that was too hard for her. And then she went to the porridge of the Little Wee Bear, and tasted it, and that was neither too hot nor too cold, but just right, and she liked it so well that she ate it all up, every bit! Next she tasted the porridge of the Middle-sized Bear, but that was too cold for her. But she was an impudent, rude little girl, and so she set about helping herself.įirst she tasted the porridge of the Great Big Bear, and that was too hot for her. If she had been a well-brought-up little girl she would have waited till the Bears came home, and then, perhaps, they would have asked her to breakfast for they were good Bears-a little rough or so, as the manner of Bears is, but for all that very good-natured and hospitable. ![]() So Goldilocks opened the door and went in and well pleased was she when she saw the porridge on the table. The door was not fastened, because the Bears were good Bears, who did nobody any harm, and never suspected that anybody would harm them. Then seeing nobody in the house she lifted the latch. And then she peeped in at the keyhole, for she was not at all a well-brought-up little girl. And while they were away a little girl called Goldilocks, who lived at the other side of the wood and had been sent on an errand by her mother, passed by the house, and looked in at the window. One day, after they had made the porridge for their breakfast, and poured it into their porridge-bowls, they walked out into the wood while the porridge was cooling, that they might not burn their mouths by beginning too soon, for they were polite, well-brought-up Bears. And they had each a bed to sleep in a little bed for the Little Wee Bear and a middle-sized bed for the Middle-sized Bear and a great bed for the Great Big Bear. And they had each a chair to sit in a little chair for the Little Wee Bear and a middle-sized chair for the Middle-sized Bear and a great chair for the Great Big Bear. They had each a bowl for their porridge a little bowl for the Little Wee Bear and a middle-sized bowl for the Middle-sized Bear and a great bowl for the Great Big Bear. One of them was a Little Wee Bear, and one was a Middle-sized Bear, and the other was a Great Big Bear. ![]() I would have liked a bit more explanation to tie the end of the story together.Once upon a time there were three Bears, who lived together in a house of their own, in a wood. This book is a retelling of the original story, and while it is still a great plot, I was not a huge fan of the ending because it seemed to end abruptly. Similarly, some design elements include great illustrations such as the fuzziness look to the bears making them appear more realistic and the obvious emphasis of certain words and sounds through the use of a different and larger font. Some interesting literary elements in the book are the use of diction and using extremely descriptive words, as well as utilizing the strategy of beginning thoughts and text on one page and then completing them on the next. This story displays the effects of curiosity in young children. Goldilocks stumbles upon a house in which three people seem to be living and she decides to test out each of their things until she finds the one that suits her best. The traditional story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” is a classic tale and an enjoyable read for children of all ages. It would also encourage students to read more books in a genre that they enjoy. Also how different genres have different elements to them. This would help them to understand the categorization of books. I would do a unit on types of stories to teach children that there are different genres of books. I would defiantly use this book in my future classroom. This is common with folktales, the story focuses on what happens in the story rather than any character development. Similarly, we do not know anything about the bears except for they are a family and are three different sizes. We do not know anything about Goldilocks, where she comes from, where she goes, and why she is in the woods. Because of this the characters are not well developed. We know bears can not talk but we like the entertainment factor.įolktales are designed to be a silly story to entertain people. Another element of a folktale is knowing that the story is not real. These type of characters are normally in folktales. It also is about characters that are not real. It is considered a folktale because for a long time it was only told orally. I think most children in America have heard the story or read it in a book. Goldilocks and the Three Bears has been orally told for a long time.
